Rufus is a visionary. The song is a tortured anthem of an American who has been disillusioned in So many ways, including being devalued as a Gay man, having been stripped of his god-given rights. Very timeless and MOVING tribute to freedom in AMERICA.

Going to a town is great, but the rest of the new CD seems to be a step in new direction, not my direction... Rufus, I miss your fantastic, moving voice, your fabulous, intense identity. It releases me from the impossibilities of life, of the drudgery of every day living and throws me into a place where I can close my eyes and just be carried off to where anything's possible. Hope you bring out a DVD in the future which includes this actual footage, rather than live at a concert. You just look so amazing and your voice - it takes my breath away!

I'm wondering if this could possibly be related to homosexuality... "Making my own way home/Ain't gonna be alone" "Do you really think you go to hell for having love?" Unfortunately, many Americans shun homosexuals... "I'm so tired of you, America..." A town that has already been brought down, may be referring to a town that has already stopped being prejudiced against such people, and stopped resisting other ideals? Just a thought. Great song... :) I've been listening to it for several days.... :D

Dear Rufus --I cannot tell you how much ive been moved by your singing of Leonard Cohens song Hallelujia. I played it over and over until your web site banned me for a while.( Im new to the site and will definitely purchase it:) I light a candle and listen each night. Something about the truth in leonards words and the truth in your beautiful voice and spirit reaches me like nothing else.. I decided i had to go to your concert In Monterey. You could hear a pin drop up in the balcony. Thank you for having the courage/ guts to be who you are. It is a beautiful reflection in all of us. "Going to a town" also speaks to my sentiments --fabulous song I am also singer -some swing vocals a while back . Even taught swing dance to the staff at Esilon where you visited -fully clothed of course:)

I really love this song, the words and the lyrics... I was in "Primavera Sound" in Barcelona where Rufus sang it as well. I may go to Nottingham festival also just to listen again his enchanting voice.
