if 4/25 is close in prrfection to the 4/20 gig in Englewood, NJ, then lightning does strike twice
If any part of the Sunday in Englewood, NJ, is resurrected on the rest of the Spring tour, then watch out for musical magic so majestic and
simplistic in its divinity that it defies the gravity now strangleholding this Planet.
We were the NJ "FUN crowd" as described by "our boy" (as we affectionately moniker Rufus)..and if life had ended at the melodic moment in time, THOSE gathered were ready for heaven. (though some happy Hell was raised en route to being rasied up)
And if we weren't musically and emotionally orgasmic already, Mom cascaded onto the stage, becoming an extension of the piano , giving birth to a mother and child reunion that was a "religious experience".
OVER THE RAINBOW is a place, after all, that we all know of but rarely get to.
Rufus took us to that place in the heart by his soulful duet with Mama Kate...the place so many of us wish we could have had mercifully manifested with our own madres.
He sang for all us children of all ages, and the tissues were flowing like confetti. I also believe he sung it for himself and Kate.
If Rufus can top his vocals, his idiosyndratic banter, his natural self adulation mingled amidst sardonic self deprecation that was on rainbow display in our little NJ Performing Arts center...then somebody better get me a passport and a tix.
Though Rufus speculates in GAY MESSIAH that he is NOT the chosen One of Ones but rather Rufus the Baptist.. his life and art, each inextricably linked in lyric and lilt,...more conjure Lazarus.
Rufus Wainright, personally & professionally has risen from the "dead",, and is truly one of the musical angels in America ( and beyond)
Dang, I pride myself on being a cynic critic and that Wainrighteouness snags my optimistic jubilation every time.
See you at your Opera, Rufus....and be seeing you in all the old familiar places as well. Hope to see you with Sloanie more often. God, you two are golden children when playing together.
If anyone want to stop the world and its madness for a few hours, sache into the
whirl of gladness that is Pure Rufus.
Plus HE IS JUST SUCH DAMNED UNAPOLGETIC, MAGNETIC FUN...FREAKIN PURE JOY PERSONIFIED.
